John Callisto

John started playing bass at the age of 18 and slowly gained a good rapport with many musicians from all around Australia. Performing 5 nights a week in a house band, John accompanied many local and international acts – singers, cabaret entertainers, comedians, variety acts and other popular artists.

The standard of performance was very high, all at a professional level, so in the eighties John started full time studies on electric and double bass.

Graduating with degrees in performance on electric bass, jazz and classical double bass, as well as a teaching degree in 1987, John started working as a full time professional performer in Adelaide and Melbourne while teaching at many private schools in Adelaide.

During this period John established JC Jazz with Peter McMillan on Piano and Jim Bailey on drums.

Many interstate and overseas opportunities to perform were available, however travelling with a young family wasn’t practical so John decided to stay in Adelaide performing freelance, teaching bass and launching new band products ready to conquer the corporate market. JC Jazz and associated JC Groups included JC Lounge, JC Latin, JC Swings, JC Acoustic and JC Rocks.

John has been fortunate to perform all styles of music, both on double bass and electric bass, and is now teaching at many private colleges, performing in JC Jazz at corporate functions and freelancing in many bands around Adelaide.
